Noise gives neighbours most cause for grief

The most common complaint about neighbours is excessive noise, Glasgow University researchers have found.

A report on legal remedies for nuisance neighbours - written by Tom Mullen, senior lecturer in law; Suzie Scott, senior lecturer in housing studies; and Rowland Atkinson, researcher in urban studies - found that other complaints included threatening behaviour, assault, vandalism and drunkenness.

Mr Mullen said: &quot;The main aim was to establish how civil legal remedies are being used to deal with problems and how effective these remedies are. We found that those landlords who use legal remedies usually get the result they want, albeit sometimes with frustrating delays.&quot;
