The police have been called into Southampton Institute to investigate allegations that university documents have been forged.

The THES has obtained documents that purport to show that a lecturer in Southampton's faculty of media arts was called to a disciplinary hearing late last year on suspicion of supplying drugs to students, but that the investigation was scrapped for fear of bad publicity.

A spokeswoman said this week that the institute believed the documents to be forgeries.

"The alleged authors of the documents have no knowledge of these memos, so they must be forgeries," she said.
