A review of training for social workers was announced this week by the General Social Care Council. From 2003, the council will register the workforce. It is also reviewing continuous professional development. The GSCC will accredit the degree in social work, which will be introduced in England in 2003. The review of the post-qualifying training framework, established in 1990, is seen as the next step in the reform of social work education and training announced by the government in 1998. Employers, workers, clients, regulators and training providers will be consulted.
