SNP vetoes introduction of student fees

As uncertainty continues over the Scottish Executive's response to Cubie, the Scottish National Party has vetoed the prospect of any graduate contribution.

John Swinney, shadow minister for enterprise and lifelong learning, has called for the implementation of "Cubie Plus", which he described as "the report's recommendations plus the abolition of tuition fees good and proper".

The SNP fears the executive will come up with a fudge that will involve deferred fee payment.
