Pictures showing the birth of stars more than 1,000 light years away from Earth were unveiled this week by a project backed by British universities.
The colour images are the first taken by the Southern African Large Telescope (Salt), the largest telescope in the southern hemisphere.
The ?11 million Salt project is an international partnership backed by a UK consortium from the University of Central Lancashire, Keele, Nottingham and Southampton universities, the Open University and Armagh Observatory.
