UK counts on paltry R&D force

Less than 1 per cent of the UK workforce worked in research and development in 1997, according to the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development. Although Finland leads the way with 1.6 per cent overall, Australia and New Zealand had the highest proportions of workers employed in the public sector.
