The entry cost of the provision of education information services and business applications via mobile phone has been cut substantially by an agreement between Nokia and Macromedia.

The two companies have developed the Nokia WML Studio for Macromedia Dreamweaver software, which will enable developers to use Macromedia Dreamweaver, the visual web authoring application, to create wireless markup language (WML) content for delivery to Nokia and other WAP wireless device customers.

The studio enables the 650,000-strong Dreamweaver developer community, which includes many higher and further education institutions, to create WML decks and cards, insert mobile-accepted images, modify text, and implement anchors and events within the Macromedia Dreamweaver user interface.

The studio allows developers to preview their work on the Nokia phone simulator directly from Dreamweaver software. The WML Studio tracks the compiled size of WML decks and includes a debugger allowing validation of WML code as it is created.
