White student bias

White students in chemistry and physics are far more likely to achieve a first or upper-second-class degree than their counterparts from racial minorities, according to a report from the Royal Society of Chemistry.

The report, which seeks to understand why chemistry and physics are white and male dominated at graduate level, adds that white students are also more likely to study chemistry and physics at postgraduate level.

It says that while ethnic-minority students go on to postgraduate study, it is not in these science subjects.
