Chaudhary Charan Singh University was originally established in 1965 as Meerut University. It was later renamed in honour of India¡¯s former Prime Minister and activist, Chaudhary Charan Singh.
The university is spread across a lush 222-acre urban campus in Meerut, a city in the western part of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
Academically, the university is divided into eight faculties: agriculture, art, commerce and management, education, engineering and technology, law, pharmacy, and science. Within each faculty are different departments offering a range of both undergraduate and graduate degree programmes.
The university is home to two institutes: Charak School of Pharmacy and the Sir Chhotu Ram Institute of Engineering Technology. The Charak School of Pharmacy is known for innovation in pharmaceutical education, while the Sir Chhotu Ram Institute of Engineering Technology is home to more than 10 departments specialising in engineering education.
There are also five constituent colleges: Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, Shanti Devi Government Degree College Jewar (Rabupura), Government College Pandwan Hastinapur (Meerut), Government College Salarpur Hapur, and the Government College Pabla.
