Emerson University Multan was established in 2021 as part of the government¡¯s drive to foster sustainable development in the Punjab region. The public institution traces its history back more than 100 years to its inception in 1920 as the Govt. College Multan, which was in 1933 renamed Govt. Emerson College, Multan to honour Sir Herbert William Emerson, who was then governor of the Punjab. In 2021, it was reconstituted as Emerson University Multan.
Emerson¡¯s focus is on market-oriented programmes in various disciplines of the arts, humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, management sciences and computer science, ranging from associate degrees and bachelor¡¯s degrees to PhD programmes.
Through its 13 departments in four faculties (computing and emerging technologies; management sciences; sciences; and arts, humanities and social sciences), it offers more than 150 degrees and certificates, with teaching provided by more than 500 teaching faculty. Emerson offers a variety of scholarships to students.
Among its alumni are Inzamam Ul Haq, former captain of Pakistan¡¯s national cricket team, and Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, a former chief justice of Pakistan, as well as other scholars and writers.
