Hadhramout University was officially established in 1993 and began its academic programmes in 1995.
The university¡¯s main campus is situated in Mukalla City, the capital of Hadhramout Governorate in east-central Yemen.
When the university first opened it had just three faculties: Engineering Faculty, Women¡¯s Faculty, and Education Faculty. Today, the university is home to 15 faculties specialising in a range of subject areas including medicine and health sciences, marine biology, computer science and IT, nursing, law, and arts and humanities.
In addition to its faculties, the university also has an advisory centre, numerous service centres and five research centres: Academic Development and Quality Assurance Centre, International Cooperation and University Ranking Centre, Environmental Studies and Water Resources Centre, Human and Social Studies Centre, and the Women¡¯s Centre.
Established in May 2011, the university¡¯s International Cooperation Office is responsible for developing partnerships with other higher education institutions across the globe such as Universitas Airlangga in Indonesia and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia.
