National Institute of Applied Sciences, Strasbourg (INSA Strasbourg)?specialises in architecture and engineering degree courses. There are seven engineering specialities, from mechanical engineering to plastics engineering and mechatronics.
The university also offers a dual architecture-engineering course. All architecture students, as well as 20 per cent of engineering students on construction-related courses, are awarded a bachelor’s degree in architecture and engineering, in addition to their primary qualification.
INSA Strasbourg has close links with industry. On average, INSA students secure their first job less than a month after graduation.
Rooms are reserved for international students in university halls of residence. The students’ union organises activities and clubs for students. Eight other student associations, some of them subject-specific, contribute to student life at INSA.

We are seeking an excellent candidate with outstanding administrative skills to join our team as an Executive Assistant. The successful candidate will work as part of an accounts team reporting directly to the Accounts Payable Supervisor.

This is a challenging position in a busy office and the successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an ability to take initiative to direct their own work, meet deadlines and work as part of a team. The candidate will be key in preparing, coding, matching, and checking of supplier and expenses payment run to bank upload stage.

The role involves ensuring compliance with all tax and public sector requirements with regard to University expenditure. The successful candidate will also be expected to liaise with, and respond efficiently to, all queries raised by staff across the University community and external suppliers. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in ongoing IT projects and developments.

Executive Assistant (2025) Salary Scale:?€32,030 – €48,430 p.a. (13 points)

Appointments will be made in accordance with public sector pay provisions.

Join the pioneering Hollow Core Fibre Research Group at the University of Southampton. We are a team of scientists, engineers, and technicians working to push the boundaries of optical fibre technology through innovative research in state-of-the-art hollow core fibres (HCF).

Through our research, we work to create new HCF designs, and through strong collaboration with a host of industry partners, we look to put these novel fibres into practice in the field.?

Role Overview:?We are seeking a Senior Research Technician to become part of an industrially-funded project developing HCF for a new type of fibre-optic sensor. The position is funded for an initial period of 2 years, with a strong possibility of continuation.

As part of our project team, you will:


	Lead the optical test & measurement for the project team’s hollow core fibres including responsibility for all data acquisition and reporting
	Assume ownership of test and measurement schedule and project delivery planning to ensure timely execution of all milestones
	Design and implement new optical test and measurement systems
	Mentor junior colleagues and teach them optical test and measurement procedures
	Improve test processes and systems by proactively engaging with the research team to streamline existing methods and develop new ones
	Disseminate and present results to internal and external stakeholders


Essential Skills & Experience:


	Substantial experience in testing, characterisation, and/or manufacturing of optical fibres or fibre-optic components
	Hands-on experience with optoelectronics lab devices and equipment (e.g. lasers, detectors, lens systems, OSAs, OTDRs, oscilloscopes)?
	Excellent problem-solving ability, and substantial experience troubleshooting complex fibre-optic devices or optoelectronic systems
	A strong desire to learn and grow professionally
	Excellent teamwork and communication skills


Desirable Skills & Experience:


	Experience with specialty optical fibres, ideally hollow core fibres?
	Experience aligning and testing complex fibre-optic and free-space optical systems?
	Knowledge of CAD and basic workshop tools
	Experience with test and measurement lab automation and scripting experience in relevant environments (e.g. Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB)

The Role

This scheme offers up to 6 months follow-on funding to EPSRC-funded research students after they have submitted their PhD.

The EPSRC Postdoctoral Pathway scheme (formerly known as Doctoral Prize scheme) is intended to help universities retain and recruit the best PhD students receiving EPSRC support to increase the impact of their PhD, and to improve retention of the very best students in research careers. Awards can comprise between three and six months salary (at Grade 7 SP 30) and some research support costs for an EPSRC-funded student following the submission of their PhD thesis (typically within 12 months). It is a requirement for the student to be previously funded by EPSRC (directly or as part of an EPSRC CDT, iCASE award or prosperity partnership). Students may have studied in Durham or elsewhere for their PhD, but should identify a project at Durham that constitutes a new and discrete body of work that progresses and exploits the outcomes of their doctoral work or enables research activity that makes a clear contribution to their career goals.

Longer awards may be possible if supported by leveraging funds from industry or a third party that enable duration beyond 31st March 2026, but all funding from this scheme must be spent before the end of March. (At the time of advert we are not aware of any funding offered to match or extend positions through this scheme, but academic colleagues will be invited to post a brief description of any such positions and their contact details here at any point between now and the deadline as any opportunities emerge:).

Job Purpose

The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum.

Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry.

In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT

Key Responsibilities


	Design and teach labs & practice modules.
	Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP).
	Lead or co-lead innovation projects with industry.
	Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research.
	Ensure safety in labs.


Job Requirements


	Education & Certifications:
	
		Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity, Information Security, Network Security or related fields from a recognized University.
		Industry certifications like OSCP, CISSP, or CEH are a plus.
	
	
	Experience:
	
		Proficiency in implementing security policies and establishing layered defense mechanisms for networks, servers, and cloud-based systems.
		Hands-on experience and understanding in Penetration Testing Methodologies and the MITRE ATT&CK/FiGHT Framework.
		Strong knowledge and hands-on experience with security tools such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, endpoint security, SIEM, mobile security, and encryption technologies.
		Familiarity with network protocols, system hardening, and secure coding practices.
		Experience in incident response and forensic investigations to identify, contain, and mitigate security breaches.
		Ability to automate tasks by writing basic scripts/programs.
		Basic hands-on experience in deploying cloud or on-prem infrastructure to facilitate red team exercises.
		Understanding of basic programming languages such as Python or Java, and knowledge of the software development process.
	
	
	Soft Skills & Mindset
	
		Self-starter with a problem-solving mindset and the ability to explore and integrate new security technologies.
		Ability to work with students and researchers to design and implement cybersecurity experiments or projects.
