You will be an active member of the Pharmaceutical Engineering Group to develop new, and support ongoing, research activities. This role involves supporting and advancing research activities through a combination of grant acquisition, project execution, scientific communication, and team collaboration. Key responsibilities include identifying and applying for research funding, contributing to the development and submission of grant proposals, and managing reporting for funded projects.

The position requires designing and conducting experiments, staying updated with relevant literature, and developing innovative methodologies. Collaboration with internal and external stakeholders is essential, alongside administrative duties to support the smooth delivery of research projects.

About the person:

The successful candidate must have, and your application should clearly demonstrate that you meet the following essential criteria:


	Hold a degree in Pharmacy, Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or a closely related discipline (Minimum standard 2.1)
	Have, or be about to obtain* a PhD in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Science, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering (*must be obtained within 3 months of commencement of employment).
	Have substantial recent experience of solid-state analytical techniques including thermal analyses (DSC, TGA), PXRD, spectroscopic structural analyses (FTIR, Raman), in-vitro drug release methods, quantification assay development (UV-vis, HPLC).
	Have experience of preparing materials for publication in international scientific journals. Experience of preparing materials for dissemination at national and/or international conferences.

The role

You will be at the heart of our library's daily operations, ensuring a welcoming environment for all users from the Library Welcome Desk. Your role will involve assisting in-person with general user access and lending tasks, including greeting visitors and supporting membership procedures. You'll provide guidance on accessing resources, collections, and services, offer support for digital resources and printing services. Additionally, you'll address information enquiries, library account queries, book retrieval and help manage our learning spaces, ensuring a positive and inclusive library experience for everyone.

The post holder will work on campus afternoon and evening hours, Monday to Friday, throughout the year. The Cluster involves more than 30 researchers from four academic institutions (Austrian Academy of Sciences,?University of Vienna,?Central European University,?University of Innsbruck). The Cluster explores original-language sources in dozens of languages with a view towards addressing issues of contemporary relevance - diversity, mobility, identity - in historical perspective, pursuing comparative questions and stressing forms of connectivity in the realms of culture and religion, economy and politics, across Eurasia. We strive for a fruitful interdisciplinary dialogue and seek cooperation with the regions involved in order to create new academic infrastructures in Austria and internationally and to promote plurilateral research perspectives. We are seeking an expert to play a pivotal role in our medical engineering efforts. You will drive and shape the development of groundbreaking Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) products and leverage the power of artificial intelligence to revolutionize diagnostics, treatment, and patient care.

What You'll Do


	Lead the design and development of AI/ML algorithm
	Focus on electrophysiology and brain-computer interface (BCI) data analysis and algorithms
	Apply your expertise in machine learning (especially deep learning) to develop, train, validate, and optimize algorithms for a variety of medical applications.
	Architect and develop SaMD products, with a focus on US FDA product registration (510(k), De Novo, PMA) and fulfilling international standards (e.g., ISO 13485, IEC 62304)
	Employ software engineering best practices and adhere to relevant software development cycle standards
	Guide architectural decisions, technology choices, and development methodologies
	Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product, clinical, regulatory) to ensure alignment


What is Required


	Bachelor, Master or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Biomedical Engineering, Information Engineering, or a related field with a strong emphasis on software development and AI/ML.
	Proven experiences in BCI related data analysis and algorithms
	Proven experience in handling brain-related electrophysiological signals such as ECoG, neural spikes or EEG as a plus
	6+ years of experience in software development for medical applications, with 3+ years focused on SaMD and a proven track record of developing and deploying AI/ML algorithms in a regulated environment.
	Expert-level proficiency in machine learning, particularly deep learning, with hands-on experience using frameworks and tools, such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras, etc.
	Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, C++, R, and Java.
	Experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and their services relevant to SaMD.
	In-depth understanding of the medical device development lifecycle and relevant regulations (FDA or EU MDR).
	Experience with SaMD development, verification, validation, and regulatory approval. Knowledge of QMS principles and ISO 13485.
