About the opportunity

The Faculty of Engineering and the School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering are welcoming applications for an Education Support Officer to provide a broad range of education administrative and operational support to Academic and Teaching staff to meet the educational support needs of the faculty. This role is part of the Faculty Education Services Portfolio but will be embedded in one of the seven schools at any given time. A list of schools is available here.

This role will work across Education Support in Engineering as part of schools as well as the Education Services Portfolio and will have various areas of focus. The role has two reporting lines, one to school level and one to Faculty level. Flexibility, dealing with ambiguity and adaptability are key as we are working through a renewed operating model.

Your key responsibilities will be to:


	maintain a comprehensive understanding of the student life cycle including enrolment, special considerations, appeals, exams, results progressing and integrity case management for both undergraduate and postgraduate students
	provide targeted support to large units and/ or specific highly productive academics
	assist with Faculty and school committees and work with the relevant professional staff and academic roles to support Engineering students
	provide high level support and assistance in relation to course management and, students across our coursework programs as well as academic staff
	work across education services teams in peak- times and closely collaborate with schools and their education staff
	Support with iChemE and Engineering Australia accreditation
	be the administrative lead for the Major Industrial Project Placement Scheme Scholarship (MIPPS) program, week in industry, and graduation celebrations
	support the School to work in conjunction with OTA and EPR team to ensure casual academics are onboarded prior to semester commencing.

About you

	a tertiary qualification with some relevant work experience; and/or equivalent combination of relevant experience and training

	ability to work independently and as part of the team
	excellent time and workload management skills with demonstrated ability to prioritise effectively, manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines and achieve required outcomes
	superior computer skills, experience with Microsoft Office (in particular Excel) together with experience operating with large, corporate-level database and information systems
	experience delivering education programmes, preferably in a tertiary education environment
	experience working in a tertiary environment with working knowledge of using Learning Management Systems such as Canvas, together with sound understanding of timetabling/rostering of student activities.

About Us

The role is situated in the Department of Twin Research and Genetic Epidemiology at King's College London, part of the School of Life Course and Population Sciences within the Faculty of Life Sciences and Medicine. The department focuses on cohorts including TwinsUK to better understand the genetic and environmental factors influencing health and disease. Its extensive research portfolio covers genetics, epigenetics, and environmental impacts—such as lifestyle and diet—on complex conditions like chronic pain, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and osteoporosis. The department also delves into ageing and the microbiome role in health, contributing significantly to genetic epidemiology and public health. Strong collaborations within KCL and with national and international partners further amplify the department's research impact and reach.?

About the role

This post will work on the genetic epidemiology of back pain, intervertebral disc degeneration and hearing loss, supporting the research activities of Prof Frances Williams (PI, Dept of Twin Research, School of Life Course Sciences). We are increasingly moving to multi-omic analysis of microbiome and metabolites to understand their relationship with chronic complex traits. The use of two sample Mendelian randomisation is allowing us to truly define the risk factors which cause common complex conditions, and how they interact with host genetics.

There will have a unique opportunity to work on data from important cohorts including TwinsUK and UK Biobank.? The applicant should be familiar with all aspects of genetic epidemiology including heritability studies, GWAS and multi-omic modelling.

There will also be opportunities to engage in other projects using deeply phenotyped cohorts, as well as with other projects involving genomics research and age-related diseases, in particular chronic pain and age-related hearing loss.

Applicants are expected to be able to direct research independently, supervise students and have a good breadth of knowledge of genetic epidemiology and epidemiology research methods and background. This post is within a highly supportive environment for both early- and mid-career researchers and the ability to work as part of a team is essential.

This is a full time post (35 hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30/09/2026.

About You

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

	PhD awarded in?genetic epidemiology or microbiome/metagenome, or genetics *
	Sound knowledge of genomic epidemiology or statistical genetics
	Ability to write manuscripts for publication
	Knowledge of bioinformatics analysis methods, including ability to analyse microbiome data
	Organised and systematic approach to research
	Problem solving skills – both within the project and more broadly in the institution
	Evidence of successful team-working
	The ability to work under pressure & to meet deadlines


* Please note that this is a PhD level role but candidates who have submitted their thesis and are awaiting award of their PhDs will be considered. In these circumstances the appointment will be made at Grade 5, spine point 30 with the title of Research Assistant. Upon confirmation of the award of the PhD, the job title will become Research Associate and the salary will increase to Grade 6.

You will be directly involved with the UNIFORM (UNIfying Grid-FOllowing And Grid-foRMing Control In Inverter-based Resources) project, a collaborative programme with four academic and industrial partners that aspire to develop the next generation of inverter control. It is essential to have a PhD* or equivalent professional qualifications in Electrical/Power Systems, and especially in the areas of power system dynamics, stability and grid-forming control. Proficiency with relevant software, such as MATLAB/Simulink, is essential. Experience with hardware in the loop (HIL) setups and tests is desirable.

This highly collaborative project will involve multiple research visits to academic partners within the UK and abroad up to 30 consecutive days and up to 90 days per annum for joint research and knowledge exchange, as well as travel to conference and other venues for dissemination activities.
