Universidade Federal de Jatai is a higher education institution located in the Brazilian city of Jatai. It has its roots with the Federal University of Goias established in 1980, but gained its current name in 2018. 
There are around 3,000 undergraduate students admitted at one time, across the university’s two campuses: Riachuelo and Jatoba.
There are four main general areas of study at the university are agrarian, biology and health, sciences, and human studies. Across these areas, a range of degree programmes can be taken, ranging from chemistry to literature, pedagogy to animal science, forest engineering to medicine. 
The city of Jatai is known for its agricultural production of goods including soybeans and rice, as well as poultry and cattle.  There are several multinational companies located in the city as a result, including Nestle, Cosan and ADM. There are three universities in the city.

This is an exceptional time to be joining the University of Southampton Information and Cyber Security team within the University’s IT department, iSolutions. The Security team is uniquely placed to advise, support, and defend the University against security threats.

About the Role

You will take a leading role in securing the Secure Data Research Environment, providing specialist expertise in information and cyber security to protect sensitive research data and ensure compliance with security standards. You will work closely with colleagues across the University to monitor and analyse security systems, respond to incidents, address vulnerabilities, and implement security measures.

You will also be responsible for supporting the University’s preparation for and maintenance of cyber security accreditations, including Cyber Essentials Plus and ISO/IEC 27001.

The role is currently remote with future flexible options.

The interviews are expected to be held in the week commencing the 14th?July.?

What you’ll do

· Work with colleagues from the University to Lead efforts for the Secure Data Research Environments Cyber Security accreditations (e.g., Cyber Essentials/Plus, ISO/IEC 27001), coordinating audits, managing documentation, and implementing remedial actions.

· Provide support in maintaining security operations by managing and updating security policies and procedures, conducting vulnerability assessments, and implementing security patches and updates.

· Oversee remediation of risks from security scans and tests, ensuring alignment with risk appetite before production. Conduct risk assessments for on-premise and cloud-hosted solutions, identifying control gaps and residual risks using frameworks (e.g., CIS Top 18, NIST Cyber Security Framework, ISO 27001).

· Lead on efforts relating to the Secure Data Research Environments Cyber Security accreditations, including Cyber Essentials/Plus and ISO/IEC 27001.

· Provide expert guidance on policies, standards, industry regulations, and best practices. Offer consultation on Secure by Design principles and information assurance. Develop IA strategies, policies, and awareness programs.

· Identify, analyse, and evaluate information risks across various projects and systems. Communicate the causes, likelihood, and impacts of information risks to stakeholders.

· Maintain awareness of evolving cyber security and regulatory landscapes to inform risk management and governance.

What you’ll bring:

· Experience of information and cyber security within a large organisation.

· Knowledge of current information and cyber security issues and opportunities, including knowledge of security frameworks.

· Experience of with security tooling, particularly within a mixed Windows, Linux, Mac and Cloud environment.

· The ability to present your ideas and your specialist area, to a wide and potentially non-technical audience.

· The integrity required to work with both commercially sensitive and personally identifiable information.

About us

The Department of Informatics is seeking to appoint a postdoctoral research fellow with an excellent track record in knowledge graphs, semantic technologies, and machine learning. Topics of interest in this area include, but are not limited to: natural language processing, large language models,? graph learning, general pre-trained transformers, prompt engineering, knowledge graphs, knowledge representation, knowledge engineering, linked data.

About the role

The successful candidate will join the Distributed AI (DAI) group in the Department of Informatics, King’s College London. They will carry out research in neuro-symbolic AI, with a focus on using generative AI and prompt engineering as a method to engineer knowledge graphs one can trust. This includes the design of algorithms and architectures, but also process blueprints and guidance for knowledge engineers to use generative AI tools productively.?

The post holder will work closely with Prof Elena Simperl and Dr Albert Mero?o Pe?uela and a team of 15+ researchers and PhD students in the area of knowledge graphs. The role covers research in the areas mentioned above, as well as the production of scientific publications and application showcases to drive research impact. The researcher will also be expected to support the organisation of impact creation activities, including hackathons, workshops, tutorials, and community meetups. The research outputs will inform work undertaken in the group in several large collaborative grants and application areas, including cultural heritage, enterprise data management, and legal compliance.

The ideal candidate will have solid expertise in the technical areas mentioned earlier, as well as a proven track record of scientific excellence (through publications in A and A* conferences and journals) and of open science and FAIR practices (through software, datasets and other research outputs, participation in challenges etc). Familiarity with knowledge engineering methodologies and with semantic technologies, in theory and practice, is a firm requirement.?

The post is full-time (35 hours per week), offered on a fixed term contract for 18 months. We can discuss part-time options in exceptional circumstances. There is also the option to extend the contract beyond the 18 months provided funding is available.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	PhD in computer science, AI or related area
	Proven experience of knowledge engineering and semantic technologies such as knowledge graphs, ontologies, data modelling, RDF, RDFS, OWL
	Proven experience with predictive and generative AI
	Practical experience in using large language models, generative AI techniques, prompt engineering
	Proven record of A/A* scientific publications and open science/FAIR practices
	Teamwork skills demonstrated e.g. through project work, organization of joint events, co-authored papers etc.
	Time management and organisational skills, including experience in organizing small scientific workshops and similar


Desirable criteria


	Familiarity with the design of AI enabled tools, AI assistants, and agentic AI
	Familiarity and contributions to Wikipedia and/or Wikidata
	Familiarity with one or more of these application domains for neuro-symbolic AI: law, cultural heritage, enterprise data management
	Track record of organising dissemination and community building events e.g. workshops or tutorials co-located with academic conferences
