Universite Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar, founded in 1957 as the University of Dakar, is one of West Africa¡¯s oldest public universities. It traces its roots to Africa¡¯s first medical school, started in 1918, and the French Institute of Black Africa, founded in 1936. Originally linked to the Universities of Paris and Bordeaux, it became fully independent in 1957 and was renamed in 1987 to honour the Senegalese historian and scientist Cheikh Anta Diop.
The university has six faculties: economics and management; letters and human sciences; science and technology; medicine, pharmacy and dentistry; legal and political sciences; and education and training. It offers many courses under the Licence, Master and Doctorate system introduced in 2003.
Its facilities include a university library, digital resources and online learning tools.
