Established in 2004 as a private not-for-profit institution, the University of Nizwa is located in the historic former capital of Oman - Birkat Al Mawz.
Since its inaugural class of 1,200 students, the university has expanded a great deal, both in physical size and in the number and diversity of programmes. With a total enrolment of almost 10,000 students in its four colleges (including international students from 19 countries), it now offers some 30 undergraduate majors, six master¡¯s programmes and two PhD programmes. It has faculties of arts and sciences; economics, management and information systems; engineering and architecture; and health sciences.
It is currently in the process of developing a new campus to support its continued growth.
The university offers students traditional exchange programmes as well as virtual exchange schemes. Of its academic staff, 55 per cent are international. The university has a variety of partnerships with more than 50 institutions from 17 countries.
Situated about 160km south-west of Muscat, Oman¡¯s capital, Nizwa lies at the foot of Al Jabal Al Akhdar (Green Mountain).
