Applications are invited for the position of Chief Technical Officer in the School of Civil Engineering, to provide leadership to the School's research and teaching, particularly relating to laboratory and fieldwork support.?The School of Civil Engineering is a dynamic, research-driven school with a clear focus on delivering excellent teaching programmes. The School is home to two research centres: the Centre for Critical Infrastructure Research (CCIR) and the Centre for Water Resources Research (CWRR).Teaching and research within the School covers the areas of construction materials, mechanics, structures, water and wastewater chemistry, hydraulics, geotechnics, and 3D printing.

About us

A new opportunity has opened in the Department of Forensic and Neurodevelopmental Sciences for two Post-Doctoral Research Associates to lead on cutting-edge 'network psychometrics' to examine how clinical features interact with each other (as well as neurobiological, neurocognitive processes) across development. These analyses will provide critical information to track what drives changes (e.g., developing mental health problems), when (identifying critical developmental tipping points), and how (which mechanistic pathways drive this).??

The successful candidate(s) will join a world class academic team of experts in neurodevelopment, who are situated in international networks (e.g., http://aims-2-trials.eu;?candy-project.eu;?https://www.r2d2-mh.eu/).

About the role

The post holder(s) will work with secondary data from very large (>2,500 individuals) longitudinal European cohorts that span from the preschool age range into middle adulthood. Individuals within these cohorts have been ‘deeply phenotyped’ - comprehensively characterised by their clinical characteristics, behaviour/cognitive profiles, brain structure and function, inflammatory markers, and genetics.?

This is a full time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered a fixed term contract until 30th November 2026.

About you

To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:

Essential criteria


	PhD awarded (or thesis submitted) in a research-based field of relevance to neuropsychiatry/neurodevelopment/life sciences. (Please ensure you submit your PhD qualification or proof of thesis submission alongside your application)
	Advanced knowledge of systems level modelling in life sciences, with demonstrable research interest in the topic area of psychiatry.?
	Proven competence in complex quantitative research methodologies and statistical analysis, particularly in relation to big/longitudinal data, using script-based statistical packages (e.g., R, Stat, MPlus).?
	Experience with longitudinal modelling approaches and data harmonisation.?
	?Proven track record of writing for peer-reviewed journals commensurate with level of career.?
	Excellent written and verbal communication skills and evidence of effective collaborative working in a multidisciplinary research team.?
	?Excellent organisational and time management skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise own workload to meet project targets.

The post would suit an experienced adult educator in counselling skills and theory, specifically the COSCA Certificate in Counselling Skills). Experience of online teaching and learning would be advantageous. The post will be based in CLL but agile working arrangements can be discussed. The Professional Officers Division (POD) houses a centralized pool of academic staff under the Professional Officers scheme. Professional Officers come with specialised and deep technical skills acquired through extensive industry experience. They form the talent pool which brings a much-needed industry perspective to student learning. They facilitate applied learning and applied research in SIT, complementing the academic expertise of the faculty to bring industry practices and applications into the curriculum.

Professional Officers leverage on their industry experiences to create authentic learning environments, where discovery and innovation take place. They act as coaches and mentors to students during practical learning activities such as laboratory sessions, Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP). Professional Officers could also lead or work with faculty on industry innovation projects to provide solutions to the industry.

In addition to their role in applied learning and applied research, Professional Officers manage the centralised laboratory facilities and resources in SIT. With Technical Officers, laboratory safety professionals, and administrators in POD, they jointly develop central policies and processes for the safe and seamless operation of laboratories in SIT.

Key Responsibilities


	Design and teach labs & practice modules.
	Mentor students in Capstone Projects and the Integrated Work Study Programme (IWSP).
	Manage labs and equipment to support academic programmes and applied research.
	Ensure safety in labs.
	Participate and manage the industry project with Principal Investigator (PI), Co-PI and team members to ensure all project deliverables are met.
	An innovative mindset in exploration, valuation, and application of new technologies in food product/ process/ packaging research and development.
	Involve in customer engagements, includes gathering of systems requirements and formulate scope.
	Involve in the full development life cycle, i.e., design, development, and testing.


Job Requirements


	A good degree in Food Science and Technology, or a related field. Masters and PhD would be advantageous.
	At least 10 or more years of working experience and proven track record of technical expertise with minimum 7 years of R&D experience in food industry.
	Excellent knowledge and experience in food ingredients/ packaging/ processing, and their applications in food products.
	Excellent understanding in food chemistry / microbiology / texture / sensory evaluation, with discerned laboratory skills for food analysis would be advantageous.
	Hands-on experience in quality control and food safety management would be an added advantage.
	An innovative mindset in exploration, valuation, and application of new technologies in food product/ process/ packaging research and development.
	Experience in writing project grants will be an added advantage.
	Extensive experience and knowledge of industry practices to bring industry perspective to SIT.
	Keen interest in innovation projects, with demonstrated ability in developing solutions to technical problems.

The ARC-funded Centre for Critical Resources for the Future (CCRF) is located within the School of Earth and Oceans at the University of Western Australia (UWA). The Centre collaborates across academia, industry, and government to address research challenges related to critical minerals. The Data to Knowledge Program plays a transformative role by generating insights for evidence-based geosciences, while providing training for the geoscientists of tomorrow.
