About the Role

The filling of this position is intended to constitute a special/equal opportunity measure under section 8 (1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and s57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1995 (NT). The Project Support Officer will provide accurate, efficient and timely operational and administrative support to the eGFR3 Study. The Project Officer will assist with secretariat duties of the eGFR3 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Community Governance Group and supporting community researchers. In addition to this, the Project Support Officer will provide administrative support to the Clinical Research Professor, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Advancement.

The key responsibilities of this position will include, but are not limited to:


	Building and maintaining strong and effective relationships with internal and external staff to ensure the efficient delivery of support services in a professional and culturally sensitive manner.
	Assisting with administration required for research participant tracing, data collection and archiving. This includes travel arrangements for the Study team, community researchers and facilitators.
	Managing correspondence, calendar and appointments.
	Identifying and implementing problem-solving solutions and making recommendations.
	Assisting the Study team to maintain project governance processes, primarily through liaising with and supporting stakeholders.


About You?

This position will require someone with high-level administration skills, exceptional attention to detail and strong time management. The tasks will be varied and the successful candidate will be adaptable and flexible, as well as capable of building relationships with many stakeholders.

	Demonstrated experience working effectively in a culturally safe manner with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in a work context.

About the role

The School of Security Studies is recruiting a full-time Programme Officer who will provide administrative support to taught programmes within the Department of War Studies. We are seeking candidates at all levels with experience in delivering high quality customer service in a professional environment to support our strategic aims. The Programme Officer will support student lifecycle processes from pre-enrolment activities, through induction and registration to graduation and beyond, utilising systems and databases - e.g., student records systems and virtual learning environments – in accordance with best practice, ensuring consistency of data and identifying and resolving issues.

The Programme Officer is the first point of contact for resolving students’ and academics’ enquiries, in person and via email, responding within agreed timeframes and escalating complex enquiries as appropriate. Working flexibly as part of a team, they will support others in times of high-volume activity and actively participate in the development and improvement of processes to support students and academic staff.

With support to develop a working knowledge of regulations and processes, the Programme Officer is a valued and trusted member of the team with a keen eye for accuracy and detail.???

The postholder will report to the Senior Programme Officer and is based at the Strand Campus. Professional services staff are currently working on a hybrid basis, meaning that the role holder will spend part of their working week on campus and the remainder working remotely.?

We are looking for a Senior Research Assistant/ Research Fellow with a background in Health Services Research, with experience in advanced quantitative methodologies. Some experience in qualitative methods is also desired. In our study we are investigating whether it is possible to predict how many nurses are needed on hospital wards from routinely collected data. You will have an interest in healthcare workforce research, with an enthusiasm for researching nurse staffing decisions that maintain quality and safety of patient care. ?Your work will involve a variety of tasks including both individual and team working. The project offers opportunities to apply skills in qualitative data analysis of survey data, complex regression modelling and predictive data analytics. ??

The role?

You will join an interdisciplinary research group whose work has contributed to health workforce policy and guidance in the UK and worldwide. You will work on a 2.5-year study funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research. This collaborative study involves co-Investigators from the University of Southampton, two NHS hospital Trusts, Imperial College London and NHS England.?

Working closely with co-Investigators, you will contribute to analysis tasks across the project. You will also be expected to contribute to tasks such as project management, data acquisition, database creation, workshop planning and preparation of publications, according to your previous experience and seniority.?

The post is funded until October 2027 with a fixed-term contract initially, but we will work with you to identify opportunities for ongoing funding. The post is available full-time, but part-time or job-share will be considered. Flexible working requests will be considered but this role is not suited to working wholly remotely.?

About you??

You will hold a PhD in a relevant discipline or equivalent experience. Candidates who are working towards a PhD will be considered for appointment as a Senior Research Assistant. Experience in undertaking research in health services or settings, including data collection and analysis, is essential. You should also be willing to learn more advanced analytical techniques and display a demonstrable interest in health workforce research. ?

A post-doctoral Research Associate is sought to work with Dr David Comerford on the Leverhulme Trust funded project: Accounting for (the loss of) Globalisation in the Economics of Climate Change.

This project explores the interaction between climate change and globalisation. A globalised economy benefits from the gains from trade, but we know from history that bad economic times are usually associated with retreats from globalisation. An efficient, globalised, economy may be able to make the investments needed to mitigate climate change, but as the climate emergency unfolds, the damage to the economy could undermine globalisation. By building a novel climate-economy model, incorporating the economics of international trade, we will provide invaluable insights for the academic community and policymakers, guiding global efforts towards more effective and sustainable economic and environmental strategies.
Climate change is a global problem that requires globally coordinated policy to solve. Moreover, globalisation not only makes globally coordinated policy easier, but the associated gains provide resources with which climate change can be tackled. However, global economic integration tends to go along with economic progress, and during periods of economic stress we have seen globalisation retreat or reverse. The climate emergency, by creating adverse economic conditions, may make solving the climate problem even harder as countries respond to stresses by retreating into protectionism and autarky, whilst blaming the global order. Indeed, with Brexit, the US-China Trade War, and the rise of nationalistic authoritarian political movements across the world, along with the economic malaise of the cost of living crisis, we may be seeing early signs of this.

The interaction of climate change and globalisation is not well studied. This project fills this research gap by combining elements of international economics and climate change economics, to create an innovative augmented climate-economy model. This model is an academic contribution, and its use in creating simulations and answering policy relevant questions will also be academic outputs, that contribute to the academic understanding of what may become a crucial policy relevant issue.

The successful candidate will have knowledge of and experience in the macroeconomic modelling of climate change, and/or new trade theory modelling. The project will combine these two strands of the economics literature, to produce research that can speak to a highly relevant and topical area of applied economics.

Department of Economics

As a Research Associate, under the general guidance of a research leader, you will develop research objectives and proposals, play a lead role in relation to a specific project/s or part of a broader project, conduct individual and/or collaborative research, contribute to the development of new research methods, identify sources of funding, and contribute to the securing of funds for research, including drafting grant proposals and planning for future proposals. You will write up research work for publication, individually or in collaboration with colleagues, and disseminate the results via peer reviewed journal publications and presentation at conferences. You will join external networks to share information and ideas, inform the development of research objectives and to identify potential sources of funding. You will collaborate with colleagues to ensure that research advances inform departmental teaching effort and you will collaborate with colleagues on the development of knowledge exchange activities by, for example, participating in initiatives which establish research links with industry and influence public policy and the professions. You will supervise student projects, provide advice to students and contribute to teaching as required by, for example, running tutorials and supervising practical work.

To be considered for the role, you will be educated to a minimum of PhD level in an appropriate discipline or have significant relevant experience in addition to a relevant degree.

GOAF is a research endeavour launched in 2020 focusing on the study of contemporary understandings and practices of academic freedom across various jurisdictions, higher education systems and institutions. A key aspiration of GOAF is to produce research that supports the development of conceptual reference points and practical guidelines for academic freedom that are better adapted to the present times and challenges in this area.
